"My people have committed two sins: they have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water." Jeremiah 2:13
This verse brings to mind Dante's Inferno. In his description of hell, the inhabitants of one particular circle are sentenced to eternally fill and re-fill leaky jars. (Tony)
Note: God describes himself as the spring of living water. He alone is the source of life, refreshment, joy, and nourishment for us. He is ever fresh and new, as a spring and, to drink of God, is to receive life and satisfaction!
